Experience

Jean Voysey's professional experience is from the elementary and high school classroom.

Resource has been a particular focus of Jean's career. For ten years, Jean was the Resource Teacher for the Annapolis Regional School Board.

From 2000 to 2013, Jean was the Student Support Consultant in the Kitikmeot region of Nunavut. Jean worked with school staff from eight schools in the region, as well as with outside agencies to support students with learning and behavioral challenges. In Nunavut, Jean developed a variety of programs to support families:

  • Early Intervention,
  • Celebrating Pregnancy, and
  • Nearest and Dearest.

Two experiences helped to shape Jean’s belief that, with a well-matched support, each student has the potential to achieve his or her potential.

In an inner city classroom:
Jean initially expected that each student would return to school with homework assigned the previous day. One student, when asked why he did not complete his homework, replied “it is not my turn to use the table”. Jean provided the student time at the end of the school day to complete his homework.

In an elementary school:
A student, when overwhelmed by activity in his classroom, would bolt from his classroom. Jean and the classroom teacher created a visual schedule for the student with built-in breaks.
